Paying Your Bill

Choose the payment option that's best for you.

1. Telephone Banking

When signing up for this option, select Erie Thames Powerlines from the list of billers. We are recognized by all major banks.

2. Online Banking

When signing up to pay online through your bank, select Erie Thames Powerlines from the list of billers. We are recognized by all major banks.

3. Pre-Authorized Payment (PAP)

Our pre-authorized payment plan is a simple and convenient way for you to pay your monthly electrical bill. By choosing PAP, your electrical bill will automatically be deducted each month from the bank account of your choice. This service is free and can be cancelled at any time by calling (519) 485-1820 or reaching us toll free at (877) 850-3128.

To sign up for PAP, print and complete our PDF PAP Authorization Form and attach an unsigned personal cheque marked as "void". You can mail the form and cheque to:

4. Pay At A Financial Institution

You can also pay your monthly electrical bill in person at all major banks and financial institutions.

5. Pay By Credit Card

Erie Thames Powerlines' credit card bill payment system is provided by Paymentus Corporation. We accept payment using Visa and MasterCard.

When you make a payment on your credit card, we receive a notification of your payment and your account will be updated on the following business day. You will receive a confirmation number for each payment we receive, which will be emailed to you for your records. Please note that Paymentus charges a small convenience fee for paying bills using this service.

Please complete the following form to set up your Paymentus account. Your information will remain confidential and will not be used for any purpose except paying your Erie Thames Powerlines energy bill. 

6. Pay By Mail

You can also send your payment by cheque through the mail.

7. PAY AT A DROP BOX

Electricity (red):

This is the cost of the electricity supplied to you during the billing period and is the part of the bill that is subject to competition.

The Ontario Energy Board is responsible for regulating electricity prices for residential and small commercial consumers. More information about electricity pricing is available on the IESO or OEB website.

Delivery (green):

These are the costs of delivering electricity from generating stations across the province to Erie Thames Powerlines then to your home or business. This includes the costs to build and maintain the transmission and distribution lines, towers and poles and operate provincial and local electricity systems.

A portion of these charges are fixed and do not change from month to month. The rest are variable and increase or decrease depending on the amount of electricity you use.

Regulatory charges (Blue):

Regulatory charges are costs of administering the wholesale electricity system and maintain the reliability of the provincial grid.

Debt retirement charge (Yellow):

The debt retirement charge pays down the debt of the former Ontario Hydro.

Provincial benefit:

This benefit indicates the difference between the regulated and contract prices for electricity that are paid to generators and the amount they would have received in the wholesale electricity market, called the IESO spot market. This will either be a credit or a charge depending on the prices for electricity in the ieso spot market.
