Smart MeteringWe're excited to support the Ontario Government's initiative to install a smart meter in every home and small business by 2010. Smart meters help businesses and homeowners monitor their energy usage. With a smart meter you can be in control of your energy costs, choosing to use appliances and utilities during off-peak hours — saving you money and helping to reduce the strain on Ontario's power grid. Through smart meters we can all participate in building a culture of conservation, which is vital as we look to protecting the environment and how to wisely steward our resources.
How the initiative works
Throughout the next year, Erie Thames Powerlines will work together with the Government of Ontario as well as home and business owners to continue/begin installing smart meters. We commit to ensuring our customers continue receiving the best service during this time of transition. We will also keep you apprised with the most up-to-date information about smart meters - how they work, how to get the most out of your smart meter, and any new pricing measures that may be involved. Ontario is a beautiful province, full of potential. By working together to conserve energy we can protect our land and ensure a bright future. If you have any questions about smart meters please feel free to contact us at (519) 485-1820. We will be happy to provide you with any additional information you require.
What is a Smart Meter?Unlike the analog meter most households currently use, digitally operated smart meters eliminate the need for someone to manually read your meter. Smart meters have the capability to digitally record your electricity consumption, sending your power usage information through wireless technology to Erie Thames Powerlines. Energy use gets measured on an hourly basis. With the smart meter you’ll know how much energy you are using and at what times you are using the most. You can view this information online the following day. With this next-day energy use feature, you no longer have to estimate how much your monthly energy bill will be. And, you’ll be able to conveniently compare your rates from one month to the next, revealing the days and times in which your energy consumption is highest. With digital readings you can more easily regulate your use of electricity, ensuring you use it in the most cost-efficient way.
